Technology at Weddings:

By: Leslie Halford

Brides dream of walking down the aisle for years. When walking down the aisle, brides expect to see the faces of their closest family and friends as they walk to meet their groom. In reality, this won’t happen. With technology addiction at its peak, the bride will most likely see the faces of her family and friends being blocked by their phones as they try to snap a pic of her. So how are the happy couples taking on this technology war?

Some brides and grooms are fighting the phones head-on, making their ceremony a technology-free zone and encouraging guest to leave their phones behind. Others are embracing the technology and encouraging guests to take pictures, post them, and use a wedding hashtag, like #JonesWedding or #Mr.&Mrs.Jones.

In my opinion, taking pictures is the photographer’s job and guests should just enjoy the party. When I think about my wedding, as an already shy person, I don’t feel comfortable in big groups or being the center of attention. I want to just be around the people I love and enjoy the evening. I want the people at my wedding to make a presence, and not be caught up in social media or their phones. Phone zombies don’t get invited! I want everyone dancing and celebrating, not checking on how many ‘Likes’ they’re getting on the weddings pics they snapped. When I look back on my wedding day, I want to have memories with the friends and family I love, that is what is most important. Enjoy the moment for what it is.

It honestly reminds me of the people I see at concerts. They are in the front row and filming the concert the whole time, watching the show through the camera lens. When you focus too much on capturing the moment, you end up missing the whole experience. If you are invited to a wedding, and the couple is paying for you to be there, by-golly you better be there and engaging with the real people around you, not virtual friends on Facebook! Final Verdict: Anti-Technology at Weddings.
