Thoughts from the owner: volume 2! This literally means that I am keeping my word to all of my many, MANY readers. (Side note, I also have an awesome accountability partner-in-crime in my blogging who 1000% makes this all possible, legible and consistent – so thank you Miss Molly!)
Keeping in rhythm with what I love about entrepreneurship, and specifically what I love about Everyman Media Works, let’s talk company culture!
Creating an amazing and cohesive company culture is paramount to success for any company. Look at the most successful companies such as Google, Facebook and Apple. They go above and beyond to create a company culture that attracts only the best. Google goes as far as providing three gourmet meals a day, yoga classes, and yes, even napping pods! Obviously most small companies and startups don’t have the resources to provide this type of luxury treatment, but the end result can still be the same. These companies, and most successful companies, invest heavily in a great culture to obtain the same result – attract and attain amazing people.
Great companies are only great because of the people that make them up. In his book, “Good to Great” Jim Collins talks about the “First Who, Then What” philosophy:
“In fact, leaders of companies that go from good to great start not with “where” but with “who.” They start by getting the right people on the bus, the wrong people off the bus, and the right people in the right seats. And they stick with that discipline—first the people, then the direction—no matter how dire the circumstances.”
Having the right people who contribute with their fullest potential, based on their strengths, create an unstoppable force for any company. In the same way, having the wrong people within a company causes a destructible force that can almost certainly not be overcome.
At Everyman Media Works, we do everything we can to make sure our company culture is King! We strive everyday to make sure that we have an environment that is conducive to creativity, engagement and growth. I have seen the destruction and distraction that having the wrong people can do within a company; but I’ve also seen how amazing it can be to have the right people in the right place. Having a TEAM of talented individuals who are all of the same mindset, working toward the same goal and have the best interest of the TEAM first and foremost, will take any company to new heights. I am proud to say that’s what we have created here at EMW! I couldn’t be more grateful for our team and am excited to see where these amazing people take this company!
